Research Paper Help & Advice

Student Friendly Databases

These three databases are very helpful for student projects, particularly controversial issues such as the issues pertaining to sports that you are researching.  Please ask if you need help with any of these sources.  They can all be browsed or searched. You will need an ID&PW to use these resources from home, they are available at the desk.

MLA @ KHS

Don't forget, the library has several copies of the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers, 7th Ed.  If you can't find an example of a source in our KHS handout, check the complete handbook for help.  Even better, ask your teacher or Ms. Teixeira for assistance.

Sports History Resources

Library Books

There is a cart with reserved books on a cart for your class.  Please photocopy articles, or ask for help with copying.  Make sure to copy the titlepage for your MLA information.

Google Search

If you know the name of the professional organization devoted to your sport, National Hockey League, for example, you could try searching "National Hockey League" and history of hockey.  Or, just search for "hockey history."  Halls of Fame are also good sources for biographical information.  You could search "Pedro Martinez" AND baseball hall of fame, for example.

Other Important Databases

In addition to the three most student-friendly controversy oriented databases, Issues and Controversies, SIRS, and Opposing Viewpoints, everyone should try Master File Main Edition from  EBSCO host, accessed from the Power Library link below. Here you will find magazine articles. Click on the link->Newspapers/Magazines-> Masterfile Main Edition.  Search on your topic, limiting to full text.  School only, unless you have a PA public library card.
